Facilitated by Capital University Psychology professor and bereavement specialist Jannette McDonald, this month’s book club will feature Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg (author of Lean In) and psychologist Adam Grant.
The book stems from the aftermath of the sudden death of Sandberg’s husband, Dave Goldberg, when he was just 47 years old. While framed as a book for those who are grieving a loss, it’s also a book for the friends and families of the bereaved—which is to say, nearly everyone—people who may not know what to say or do in the wake of a tragedy.
Dr. McDonald has an interdisciplinary appreciation for academic and scholarly endeavors. She has extensive training in end-of-life care, was ordained in 2011 as a Zen Hospice Chaplain, and has specific research interests in the development of human consciousness and self-awareness. She also studies and writes about hope, forgiveness, and spirituality.
