The Hellfire Club, CNN chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper’s exciting historical political thriller set in the McCarthy era, is the July book club selection. Amid the swirl of glamorous and powerful political leaders and deal makers, a mysterious fatal car accident thrusts unlikely Congressman Charlie Marder and his young wife, Margaret, into an underworld of backroom deals, secret societies, and a plot that could change the course of history.

The discussion will be facilitated by Paul Beck, an Academy Professor of Political Science at The Ohio State University. Before retiring in 2012, served as Chair of the Department of Political Science and Dean of the College of Social and Behavior Sciences. Beck has published widely in leading professional journals on voting behavior, political parties, and public opinion. In recent years, he has provided political commentary for a wide variety of local, national, and international media.

CNN anchor and Chief Washington Correspondent Jake Tapper joined the network in January of 2013. “The Lead” with Jake Tapper, his one-hour weekday program, debuted in March 2013. Tapper was named host of the network's Sunday morning show, “State of the Union,” in June 2015. He has been a widely respected reporter in the nation's capital for more than 14 years. His most recent book, The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor, debuted in the top 10 on the New York Times bestseller list.
